Attractions Go Cashless with PDC Smart Band® RFID Wristbands while Reaping Bottom Line Benefits
San Fernando, CA - (September 17, 2007) - IFEA Booth #600 - Waterparks, amusement parks, festivals, hotels and events often search for new ways to increase patron satisfaction while also increasing their revenue, ROI and streamlining operations. RFID (radio frequency identification) technology provides a solution with advanced capabilities to help venues achieve maximum efficiency in those areas. Bringing RFID technology forward is the Smart Band® RFID Wristband System from Precision Dynamics Corporation (PDC) which provides venues multiple applications for their targeted needs.
The Smart Band ® RFID Wristband is currently being utilized in top national venues and festivals. It provides facilities and patrons with automated cashless point-of-sale (POS), keyless entry to hotel rooms and lockers, admission, and nontransferable patron identification, as well as other customizable applications.
The South by Southwest (SXSW) Music, Film and Interactive Festivals implemented PDC’s RFID solutions for the fourth consecutive year (2003-2007) to automate admissions, prevent counterfeits, and improve attendees' overall experience. More than 36,000 conference and participants, trade show attendees, attend the SXSW festivals and conferences. Admission consisted of either a PDC Smart Band RFID Wristband or an RFID-enabled Access Badge. In 2003, SXSW counterfeit wristbands were sold with a total face value of as much as $500,000. Since the implementation of PDC Smart Band ® RFID Wristbands, instances of counterfeit activity have been eliminated.
"The first year we used the ID bands, we were amazed at how much shorter the lines were at venues," says Eve McArthur, SXSW Operations Director. "There must have been more counterfeit bands than we thought in the past. And since then, though our event is growing significantly each year, the lines have not grown accordingly."
"Smart Band ® is practically counterfeit-proof. It is nearly impossible to duplicate an RFID chip and then place it on a wristband," states Douglas Bourque, PDC RFID Market Development Manager. "The RFID readers used at the event are programmed to detect fraudulent RFID wristbands eliminating loss of revenue and unexpected over-crowding due to counterfeit sales."
Aside from discouraging counterfeits, the RFID wristbands have added functionality to help enhance SXSW operations. The RFID wristbands have the capability to also obtain basic metrics such as the number of total attendees, dollar amount of purchases made at bars or concession stands work-hours and break time for volunteers, and more. The wristbands use a passive 13.56MHz RFID inlet and cannot and do not track the location of attendees.
PDC will be showcasing their Smart Band ® RFID Wristband solutions at the 52nd IFEA (International Festivals and Events Association) Annual Convention & Expo, September 20-21, 2007 at the Omni Hotel, CNN Center in Atlanta GA. IFEA attendees will have the opportunity to view the products first hand, plus receive valuable demonstrations with the bands and their usage in RFID technology. PDC will be located at IFEA Booth #600.
